Hmm, I'm curious about the filesystem too, which version of ReiserFS?
XFS and JFS used to be the only Linux filesystems that handled large file
deletion well, but I don't know anything about how ReiserFS v4 handles
deletion.
But from the debugging it is fairly obvious that if the ringbuffer
released the
buffer lock between some of the writes, and responded more quickly to a
low buffer situation things would work (at least now that [7819] makes the
DVB buffers a reasonable size). I'm going to test some of the patches in
my queue today, then I'll have a look at the ringbuffer problems again. My
guess is that at some point the buffer was made larger, and then your
system stopped being able to drain it quickly enough.
