#546: MythTV loses "starting channel"
---------------------------------------+------------------------------------
 Reporter: ian at testers.homelinux.net | Owner: ijr
     Type:  defect                     |      Status:  new
 Priority:  major                      |   Milestone:  0.19
Component:  mythtv                     |     Version:  0.18.1
 Severity:  high                       |  ---------------------------------------+------------------------------------
 I'm still having small difficulties setting up my MythTV box. Sometimes
 the right set of modules for the DVB card don't load. When this happens,
 the MythTV backend obviously can't connect to the DVB frontend device. It
 also appears to clear the "starting channel" setting for that input. After
 a reboot to fix the module loading problem, MythTV now refuses to show
 live tv because of the blank starting channel. It shows a black screen for
 a period and then returns to the menu with no explaination.

 An example from the backend log:
 {{{
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.827 Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.843 DVB#0 DVB SI Table Parser Started
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.857 DVB#0 Using DVB card 0, with frontend DViCO
 FusionHDTV DVB-T Plus.
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.860 DVB#0 ERROR - Unable to find channel in database.
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.861 DVB#0 ERROR - Failed to get channel options for
 channel .
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.861 DVB#0 Recorder: Card opened successfully (using TS
 mode).
 2005-10-30 21:09:42.862 DVB#0 ERROR - No PIDS set, please correct your
 channel setup.
 2005-10-30 21:09:43.862 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.
 2005-10-30 21:09:44.863 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.
 2005-10-30 21:09:45.864 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.
 2005-10-30 21:09:46.865 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.
 }}}

 To fix this I need to get into mythtv-setup and set it to a valid channel,
 then restart the MythTV backend.

 It would be better if the starting channel wasn't cleared, and/or a random
 channel was chosen if it is empty.
