 After configuring my inittab to directly login my mythtv user and start X
 I began experiencing this problem. Since kernel >=2.6.25 requires PAM
 authentication to enable realtime priority threads, instead of merely
 setting the SUID bit, this prevented mythfrontend from entering realtime
 priority mode. After installing GDM and configuring it for autologin the
 problem is fixed.

 Note: this is with the 0.21 release without -fixes.
