 Following some help from Sphery in -users on IRC I did the following :

 damian at mythtv-box:/media_files/TVSeries/Prison Break/Series4$
 mythtranscode --buildindex --video -i 4x08\ -\ The\ Price.avi

 This produces a segfault. Will attach log and bt.
