 (In [18602]) Refs #5596. Reapply [18589]. The problem turned out to be an
 error in one line of code in the patch where an 'H' was used instead of a
 'V'. This completely fubarred a number of layouts.

 Note this does require relinking the plugins.. as will another patch later
 today.
