 Anyway, OP here. I've stopped getting the "No data seen for..." messages
 since I upgraded to 2.6.30-gentoo-r6 (which I think is vanilla 2.6.30.6 +
 patches) on about 3rd Sept. Haven't noticed any recordings abending
 either.

 Will try patch when I get a moment, but if kernel update has 'fixed' the
 problem, don't know how much help I'll be...
