 This patch removes all of the hardcoding of the alpha values in the UI
 code and replaces them with an Effects struct (with one member at the
 moment... alpha).  Something like this will be necessary to add further
 effects to the UI with relative ease.

 Patch might be a total throwaway depending on other future changes, but
 worth at least getting the dialog going.
