It all depends on what you mean by "standard serial".. the low-speed-data 
port can hook into your serial port for control, yes.. depends on your 
system, etc.. but as the other response to this thread mentioned, check out 
the faq.. and give some feedback on what you find confusing/unhelpful about 
it..
