Does this mean that if mplayer can play it, you can use mencoder to
re-encode it?

VCD/DVD? Or for videolan?

I have been recording episodes of 24, but not watching them. I waiting until
its over and going to watch them in "real time". It would be nice if the
edits would export to http://www.vcdimager.org/.

My hard drive is filling up. Can I copy the files and put them on DVD and
them copy them back to watch through mythTV? A one hour show is now 4 GB, I
had to turn off audio compression to get clearer sound. With compression on
I got terrible hissing/static/noise.
