I put a new xmltv-0.5.5 ebuild on bugs.gentoo.org.  Same url as before which 
fixes the perl problem and updates xmltv as well.  maybe that will fix the 
other problem you have with zap2it.  I don't know as I am in Sweden.

Thats strange that it didn't build with -mcpu, you should maybe make a bug 
report on bugs.gentoo.org, I guess most people would be using -march
