I'm actually in the process of adding user-specific configuration
options to mythweb, and removing a bunch of stuff from the config file -
date formats included.  I'm rather overloaded at work (launching a new
website), so it may be a bit before I have anything substantial
finished, but this should more than cover your date format needs.

Also, I haven't forgotten about patches that people have submitted -
just been EXTREMELY busy, and haven't had time to look over new things.
