I agree here.  Just do something like mysql does to make sure that the
backend stays up.  No need for a daemon, a shell script would be plenty.

But it *would* be nice to get something like this put into the main tree
so there is an official safe_mythbackend script that sysV init scripts
from the various distros can interact with.
