The problem is that, when the frontend doesn't get any data while
waiting for a stream to start, there are at least 2 places where it
gets stuck in loops (tv_play.cpp:602 and RingBuffer.cpp:684) with no
clean exit path. I don't think it's in any state to accept a message
from the backend either. Trying to get it to at least accept the exit-
playback keypress, I banged my head against this for a couple days,
though somebody who understands the overall frontend architecture could
probably do a better job.
