Some modifications have been made to xmltv to firstly ease the amount of
work that users have in making decisions on channels, and secondly
provide like-wise interfaces for the GUI setup in mythttv. The
modifications allow non-interactive configuration of channels.
A set of "provider" files are required
(/usr/share/xmltv/tv_grab_uk/providers/) which define channel numbers,
and channels associated with current digital tv packages. These provider
files have a simple syntax of:
<category>:<xmltvid>(<channel-number>)
e.g. gratis:choice.bbc.co.uk(7)
=20
A file named "providers" is also required
(/usr/share/xmltv/tv_grab_uk/providers/) which lists the filenames of
the individual providers against a friendly name in a colon seperated
list.
Example providers are, Analogue Terrestrial, Freeview, NTL Base Pack,
NTL Family Pack, Sky Value Pack, etc.
terrestrial:Analogue Terrestrial
ntlBase:NTL Cable - Base Package
ntlFamily:NTL Cable - Family Packages
etc.
A new --configure option is added, to list the providers from the
providers file above.
tv_grab_uk --configure --list-providers --postalcode <Tv-region>
A further --configure stage is added, to configure the channels based on
the chosen provider and the data in the individual provider file. This
will write the xmltv configuration file.
tv_grab_uk --configure --list-providers --postalcode <Tv-region>
--provider <Provider Code>

To grab TV-Listings the addition of the option --auto-chan-numbers will
modify the <channel id=3D""> tag and <programme channel=3D""> tags to prefi=
x
the elements by the channel number, so that myhtTV can change to the
correct channel, this is based on data from the providers file.
tv_grab_uk --output testfile --days 1 --auto-chan-numbers
Rather than attach the files to the mailing list, (patch reqd. for
tv_grab_uk, mythfilldatabase and a few data files) head to
http://xmltv.mellon-collie.net/. There are also some instructions for
testing this with the CVS version of MythTV.=20
I think that there's enough info for any UK users to take a look at- and
I'd welcome any feedback, either on or off-list.
