I had this similar problem with a GeForce 4 MX card. I changed to a G400
and it work perfectly. I have not investigated the problem with the
GeForce, but I suspect drivers, which is probably your problem.

I've not personally experienced this issue, but my pointer would be to
look at your video capture device and permissions. Even when doing the
"Watch Live TV", you're not truly watching live tv. You are, in fact,
watching a recording of live tv (which is why you can pause it, rewind,
etc). So, start with that.

Especially since I don't think xawtv uses the /dev/video devices for
getting the input from the tv tuner card.
