Ok, I've been through the mailing lists and the
documentation and I am still having problem with
sound. I have an intel810 audio system built into my
motherboard and that is what I am trying to use for
mythtv. I am using the 0.7 release code of mythtv and
my operating system is Debian Linux 3.0.

I installed the alsa drivers from the alsa website,
version 0.9rc6. The install went great and I can use
aplay to play sounds stored on my computer. Xawtv
works fine, but I understand that it just patches the
sound through Line-In to my speakers without doing any
digital signal processing. That's where my problems
are, I believe.

I set my Line to 100%, mute and capture. Here is the
output from amixer:

Simple mixer control 'Line',0
  Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch
cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive
  Capture exclusive group: 0
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 31
Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [off] Capture [on]
Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [off] Capture [on]

Now, I tried the test in the Documentation, section
17.11, but I keep getting this error message.
/dev/dsp: no such device

That is weird, because I checked my /dev directory and
dsp is there as a link to dsp0.

When I try to start mythfrontend, I get this output.
Probed: /dev/video - Television
Probed: /dev/video - Composite1
Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
Cannot open DSP '/dev/dsp', dying.
Could not detect audio blocksize
Cannot open DSP '/dev/dsp', exiting

The front end comes up, but when I try to Watch TV, it
locks and I have to use ^C to exit.

Lastly, I checked my system with 'ps ax' and there is
no instance of artsd or esd to have locked up
/dev/dsp.

Thanks for any help.

Aaron

PS - I think a line in section 7.2 of the
documentation is wrong, or maybe my system works
differently. Should it be:
amixer set Line,0 100%,100% mute captur
instead of what is there:
amixer set Line,0 100%,100% mute capture
