In mplayer's debugging output (what you get when you don't specify -quiet),
it displays what it thinks the frame rate should be. If that number is
correct, but it plays too fast, I would suspect audio problems. Try -ao
sdl, -ao oss, -ao alsa, whatever you haven't tried already.
