In case you are serious: try RedHat Source Navigator at 
http://sourcenav.sourceforge.net/ if you need to get a feel for big 
projects you have to dive into. Using it alongside a DDD/gdb session with 
the compiled project always gets me up to speed in a day or so in a project 
this size.
And use ctags at http://ctags.sourceforge.net/ with your editor so you can 
always jump around to all definitions.
