I tried under Linux as well and I'm getting the same problem. To be exact,
I'm using the current version of mplayer 0.9 on the official website, with
the "mplayer-0.90rc5-mythtv-20030407.diff" patch.

I tried both RTjpeg and MPEG4 (384x480), and MP3 (32000 hz, quality 9) or
uncompressed sound (32000 hz), and still had the program exit right away
when I tried to seek forward. Only occurs on MythTV 0.10 videos, not 0.9
videos.
