[mythtv] Mythtv recording: machine freezes totally

There have been a few reports of this so I'll throw my story in too on the off chance there may be a common thread.

My system will effectively lock up hard about once a month. For me it is just at the nuisance level so I haven't done much about it. I do know that it started when I switched to the PVR-250. Also, last time it happened the screen saver happened to be running and I noticed it move occasionally. So the machine wasn't locked, just not responding. 'top' happened to be running in the background and I saw it update a couple of times over the next 10 minutes, the CPU was almost completely idle. Also, when it gets into this state my hard drive light is pretty much constantly on. If I just hit the reset switch, my Highpoint RAID array isn't recognized at POST and I have to power cycle the machine.

Was I writing a novel, anyway, with a boatload of patience, I was able to kill mythfrontend and backend and 'rmmod ivtv'. It was reported as still in use. At that point I ran out of patience with one keystroke every 30 seconds and power cycled.

Details:
Gentoo Athlon-XP system
Via KT400 Mobo
Vanilla 2.4.20 kernel
NVIDIA Riva TNT
PVR-250
Highpoint's Raid Drivers
I stay within a week or two of up to date with both ivtv and mythtv

Ring any bells or just sound like a babbling user :)

I'm having the same problem, intermittently. System:

Mandrake 9.1
Athlon XP 2600
ASUS A7V8X-X
Dual tuner: TV-Wonder + PVR-250

Latest cvs of mythtv, ivtv (as of Thursday 6/5 afternoon).

I've had this happen a couple of times over the last two days. It never
happened before that (though I've only been going for about a week now).

I get a hard freeze, can't even ssh in (or ping, for that matter). I suspect
it might be the ivtv drivers, but I'm not sure because when the system
freezes, there's nothing in any of the logs to indicate what the problem is.
