Is more a terminology thing, because yes, those apps are not redundant, are
slightly distinct:

To avoid this confussion, I do prefer to use this terms:

-Old "Manual Recording" -> "Instant Recording", maybe also we can call it "Live
recording"?
-New "Manual Recording" -> "Manual Scheduling", maybe also we can call
it "Manual Timers"?

I'm not english native, so don't know which terms do you prefer.

Well. With the new app certainly you can also triger an "Instant recording",
but in this case will not use the EPG info for filling the tables, and although
I've focused in usability and simplifing the screen, the new app is still more
complex than the "Instant recording" and always will be, so that's why probably
both should be available.

To my opinion the user will easily understand the difference, if the confussion
comes because of having too many choices in the menu, maybe a good idea could
be to bind a key while watching tv that triggers "Instant Recording" instead of
having it in the menu, it makes sense there since it's related to record what's
live.

The big point of this new function is to cover the need of schedule recordings
regardless of the epg, until now, to do that, it was constrained by the program
listings availability/quality. I have seen time to time numerous requests for
that.

My next todo is also related to an "historic" request, which is the hability to
edit/tune the channels table, I'm planning to introduce also an "autoscan", if
I do success with that, will mean that no more need as a requirement to fill
the channels using mythfilldatabase (although will be stii supported, of
course). That should also support the channel preset editing.
To do that I'm p'lanning to be based on the channel preset patch that I've
submitted a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't seen it commited. I've tested it
since then and I didn't noticed any problem, is there any problem for
committing this as well? If yes let me know, I don't want to work enhancing a
thing which is based to something that has not been consolidated...

Ramon.
