That's no answer to his question.
2 reasons for ogg:
- no patents, so your archive is not a timebomb
- far better audio quality (or smaller size, whatever you prefer)

Maybe, for encoding. I personally use flac (lossless) for CDs and ogg
(hardly ever) for the rest when I encode music myself.
