I would try upgrading ALSA -- I do know that some fixes went into that 
particular driver which were needed by the epia-m motherboads.

mythtv's audio output is very similar to mpg123's (unless you go in and edit 
your database to use the very new/not widely tested alsa output method), so 
once you get mpg123 working, mythtv should work fine.
