I wish I had better help to offer. I'm going to be working on a
mythrepair utility which has two goals:

1) Repair of bad files (yes, the encoder does write some bad ones on
occasion, as I've seen in 0.8).

2) Lossless conversion of the mythtv files into pur nuppelvideo format.

I'm not quite ready yet, since I've got a few kinks in mythmkmovie to
work out first, but I'm getting there.
