Yes, I know... I'm looking into tweaking this behavior.  I've thought of 
2 variants, I just need to find some time to figure out how to 
implement one (or both):

(1) just have the scroll 'continue'; i.e.,  if you move off the top (or 
bottom) it would just scroll the view 1 position, keeping your new 
selection at the top (or bottom).

(2) Always keep your current selection in the middle, and scroll the 
list through your selection indicator.  Isaac has said he doesn't like 
this behavior, but will accept it if it's a configurable option.  The 
EPG already has an option like this.
