That would be ideal. I think this is a good interim step though.
Even in that case it might not be obvious which mode to use when. I
don't know when the 16:9 stretch mode would ever be needed, for example
- AFAICT it's only needed to work around flawed transmission formats.

In reply to Isaac's comment I would say that:
1. The setup is a bit complicated but it's not unprecedented and an
empty string is just fine for a default (no change from the current
behaviour); it could be improved if suitable widgets exist, though it's
not trivial;

2. It's about laziness as well as about ease of use;
3. I don't see how it duplicates existing functionality.
