Just use mplayer (for ivtv cards) or xawtv (for bttv cards), launched 
from your TV menu (edit the XML file to add a new "Watch TV 
(unbuffered)" option; lauch it with the EXECTV command type.  Search 
the lists for "EXECTV"; this has been discussed a number of times 
before.
