[mythtv] Mythfilldatabase problem in CVS

upgraded to CVS today and mythfilldatabase no longer seems to work.
I use mythfilldatabase --file 1 -1 list.xml , doesn't produce any errors
but the program table is  empty afterwards.
Switched back to cvs from about 10 days ago and the same xml file fills
the table just fine.
Maybe something to do with the above utf8 fix?
Suggestion for debugging?
