[mythtv] Mythbackend dies without error

I've been having trouble the past week or so with mythbackend dying 
unexpectedly.  I updated to the latest CVS but the problem remains.  
This system has been working well for some time.  I compiled with debug 
and ran under GDB today but only was able to get this result when it died:

Couldn't get registers: No such process.
(gdb) thread apply all bt full
Cannot find new threads: generic error
(gdb)

Is there something I did wrong or something I can do to get more 
information about this?
