I don't have any idea exactly why, but I think this is related to 
hardened GCC, and PIC and the like.  These all consume an extra register 
and break your compile.  See the mplayer list, or the ffmpeg list 
searching on that error for more.  Perhaps try removing the -DPIC stuff...?

As I said, don't understand it, but its something along those lines I think?
