[mythtv] [PROBLEM] Running mythbackend as a service prevents X from starting

I have a problem on my system (M10000,2 PVR250s,RedHat9, both 
front&backend) where configuring mythbackend to run as a service works 
just fine if I start the service manually from within X windows but if I 
let the service auto-start during startup X will fail to start up. No 
errors, just a lot of flickering while it tries then after a while it 
just gives up and tries again 10 seconds later.

Any ideas what could be wrong?
