Native ALSA and passing raw ac3 to my amp does indeed circumvent this problem.

Dunno. It seems there is something done differently with audio
reinitialization when changing channels versus first starting up audio, since
if I hit this channel right off the bat in live TV, the audio is horked, but
if I go to another channel, then back, the audio is fine. Ultimately, I
wanted to pass raw ac3 for my HDTV stuff anyhow, but I'm happy to do or try
anything to help get this fixed for others.

Now if I could just get ABC working. With the switch of sound setup, I get the
same initial behavior (a second of normal speed video and audio), but then
video starts playing like its at half speed or something and the audio goes
silent (while before, I used to get choppy audio along w/the stuttering
video).
