[mythtv] Running frontend without a backend server?

Does anyone know where to change the code to allow a front end run without a
backend. I could do it a while back but now, it will stop and ask if the
backend is running. 

I also noticed that even though it say's it will try to connect to the
server five times it only tries once before giving up.

"Let ye without segmentation fault cast the first int!"
