That mode is already there, the listing mode does for me what you seem
to suggest.

To get the removable media support I added a link "DVD" to the videos
directory which points to /var/autofs/dvd whichis the mountpoint for the
automounter which is setup to unmount the dvd-rom after 5 seconds of
inactivity. This way I put in the dvd or cd, go to mythvideo press right
twice and can select from files on the dvd. After I leave mythvideo I
can push the eject button and the disc will be unmounted by then and be
ejected (adjust the automounter timeout to the time you need from the
sofa to the mythbox).
