memalign is technically an obsolete function. You are supposed to use 
posix_memalign (defined in stdlib.h) on newer systems.
What is the alignment criteria? Perhaps you can use av_malloc()?

Use open() with O_LARGEGILE? I not familiar with the open64() call.
