I love this plan, but would like to make one suggestion. Can we change
the help text associated with pre-/post-roll to include the text, "up to
30 seconds," so we don't get a slew of, "Global start early/end late
won't let me record more than 30 seconds extra!" posts? If you don't
want the specific value in there (for maintainability), we could say "a
few seconds" or "several seconds" or "a short time" or something.

My recommended help text (with changes "underlined"):

For RecordPreRoll:
This global setting allows the recorder to start _up to 30 seconds_
before the scheduled start time. It does not affect the scheduler. It is
ignored when two shows have been scheduled without enough time in between.

For RecordOverTime:
This global setting allows the recorder to record _up to 30 seconds_
beyond the scheduled end time. It does not affect the scheduler. It is
ignored when two shows have been scheduled without enough time in between.

Hmmm. Now that I think about it, this ingenious plan makes an
assumption that may not hold up--that people will actually read the help
text... ;) Well, at least we could quote the help text in the replies.

Thanks,
Mike
