I don't intend using it, but the guy I was replying to did have a use. In this 
case using two devices, one connected to his hi-fi for music and the other to 
his TV speakers.

Most people only have a single device and for us, a default value which uses 
the device specified in the MythTV general settings is easier. We don't have 
to change two settings if we switch from alsa to oss etc.

The patch which is now attached to the ticket gives choice and flexibility.
