The slowdown seems to be connected to OSD somehow. The 8904
compilation was the only one with OSD enabled. Other compilations had
(accidentally) disabled the OSD because I had a non-default OSD theme
set and didn't install the themes to each version.

Now I have to redo the changeset search with OSD enabled in each revision.
