OK, so run this straight from the command line after setting the MALLOC 
stuff? (don't run in gdb?)

I just want to make sure that if something happens, you don't end up 
saying "But why did you do it _that_ way?"  The bug is infrequent, so 
I'd like to make sure that you get valid information the first time around.
