This change looks interesting, but I'm not quite sure exactly how it's
intended to be used, but maybe that's because of how I use
transcoding?

I currently record OTA HD, and transcode everything to MP4 to either
856x480 ("High Quality"), 720x480 ("Medium Quality"), or 480x480 ("Low
Quality"). The reason is that I can only get a resolution of 856x480
on my television, so I don't see a need to keep anything above that.
So my 8GB/hr HD recordings end up getting transcoded to 1-2GB/hr.

And I don't see any weirdness in the aspect ratio of the transcoded
recordings ...
