As Tom said it is pretty random behaviour. Personally I only noticed it this 
week and don't think it has been around too long.

IF the problem originates in playbackbox the largest change made there in the 
last 2 weeks was Chris's Network control stuff. The trac revision browser 
comes in very handy here:

Most changes are pretty minor, one or two lines. The other deal with preview 
code only. That leaves very few suspects.

I can try working through revisions but it will take time, I've got several 
recordings scheduled for the next 12 hours.

N.B. The problem seemed worse on the slower machine, don't know if that is 
relevant.
