OK, after many encodes and a lot of help in #ffmpeg from "cartman" the
ipod encoding guru, I have fixed the mpeg4 (xvid) encoder and obtained a
working h.264 mode, too.  The catch is that you must be running the svn
(not cvs) version of ffmpeg, which unfortunately means that most fedora
users are out of luck until one of the packagers updates the ffmpeg
packages (I'll be emailing atrpms, freshrpms and livna later today).
