I think you mean "outside of any plugin" but it's subtler than that. It 
depends on where you are in the plugin's menu structure. For example, I 
run mythvideo with folder view and if I'm at the top level folder jump 
keys work OK but if I'm down even one folder they don't. Odder still is 
the jump key seems to be deferred, when I exit mythvideo the jump key I 
pressed earlier gets executed.

I haven't had a chance to look into it but if someone else does I'll 
give their patch a thorough testing.
