right, but say a user is having an issue with something that an option
under Intermediate would solve.

Perhaps a heirarchy like:

- Settings
---- Novice
------ Section A
------ Section B
------ Section etc
---- Intermediate
------ Section A
------ Section B
------ Section etc
---- Advanced
------ Section A
------ Section B
------ Section etc

instead of a option to "unlock" the more advanced options, that way
the user could just go through the novice at first and move up in the
heirarchy as they deem fit? The other reason I don't like the idea of
having to change settings levels to get to these other features is
that even if I have mine set to Advanced, I'd still like to take
advantage of the seperation that having the three levels will provide.
ie. I'll want to be able to access the advanced features, but when all
I need to do is change something in the novice section I don't want to
have to bother with seeing the advanced options.

My other concern is that the more advanced options should not be
difficult to get to or be totally hidden, as they are there to solve
problems or give more power to those that need them.

Another option is to use the above heirarchy but perhaps hide the
sections above the level chosen by the user?
