That certainly works, but it involves manual tweaking of transports on 
the part of the user. I was hoping to work around the bogus NIT in a way 
that doesn't require explicit user tweaking.

Or did you mean automatically changing the fec field to auto? That'd be 
just as good, but the problem remains fundamentally unchanged -- how do 
you decide when to change the fec to auto? Perhaps you're getting at a 
process like this at scan time:

1) Attempt to tune transport.
2) If tuning fails, try again with auto fec.
3) If tuning with auto fec succeeds, just use auto in the table.

That seems like it'd solve it, though it'd double the transport timeout 
during scanning.

I dunno, perhaps it's just best to forget about fixing the problem 
automatically, it's not like it's impossible to correct manually. The 
current scanner always overwrites the multiplexes with NIT data for 
every kind of scan though, but if that gets corrected it's not so bad -- 
just a fix once and forget kind of thing.
