I did a patch several months ago that allows using CoreAVC with
mythtv. CoreAVC is a binary-only windows DLL, so I used some
hacked-up wine-emulation code from mplayer to get it working.
Performance was 30% better than ffmpeg, but on my P4-2.8 machine still
wasn't good enough to play HD material. There was no interest from
the list at the time, so the patch has languished, but if you are
interested, I can probably update it again. Note that CoreAVC is a
commercial product, and costs ~$10. There was a beta available that
was free that you may still be able to find, if you wanted to test it
out first though.

Let me know if you are interested.
