The way I've coded it into MTD wouldn't work as a filter for livetv. 
Basically my code just calls transcode with a filter option (-J 
detectclipping blah blah blah) and reads the output from that which 
tells you what region to crop. All the actual crop detection code is in 
transcode itself.
