it also depends on the stream. lately folks have been creating HDTV
movie conversions to x264 that can play back fine on current cpu's,
but I played around with mencoder and made a few x264 encodes of my
recordings. I got a 30min show in 1080p at 24fps down to ~350megs in
pretty much identical quality to the input to my eye on my 21" monitor
but my Athlon64 3200+ could only play it at like 4fps =D
