Well, IIRC, Bruce is the contributer of the generic episode code, so
he's probably the one who should weigh the value of changes. But, as I
see it, it comes down to a question of whether a show with only a title
(i.e. programid, subtitle, and description are blank) should be
"duplicate matched." In that case, whether dupmethod is "subtitle" or
"subtitle and description", you'd have a match (since subtitle and
description are blank). I don't think it would be that helpful. It
sounds to me like it would, in fact, be a "generic" episode when there's
only a title.

I would guess this would mean that if you enabled dupchecks on a
recording rule for your local news on a channel I don't think it would
be that helpful.whose listings are provided by EIT, you'd only get one
episode of it and all others would be "previously recorded." It may
also impact other shows, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

If you want to play around with it to see if it changes things for the
better of for the worse, you can always "undo" the changes after mfdb
sets episodes as generic. Just do a:

UPDATE program SET generic = 0
 WHERE programid = ''
   AND subtitle = ''
   AND description = '';

(This UPDATE ignores "programid <> '' AND category_type = 'series' AND
program.programid LIKE '%0000'" since you probably want those to be
marked as generic since they came from DataDirect (they have a programid).)

Mike
