This is on the roadmap, but it's on a road somewhere on the other side of the
continent right now unless someone decides to take it on.

Eventually we'll probably switch to using an embedded MySQL database and
have a mythdatabase daemon that is used instead of requiring MySQL to be
installed separately.  I think mythdatabase would be the only program to
upgrade the database at that time, so you wouldn't have to worry about
booting a MythTV frontend CD and upgrading the DB by accident.

I think this has been discussed on the -dev list before so search the
mailing list archives for more information.  It has also come up quite
a few times on the dev IRC channel.
